Abstract: |
Arup was appointed by London-based designer Philippe Malouin to provide a structural concept for an installation called the Speed of Light in Miami, Florida. Philippe was asked by Design Miami to "illuminate the neighbourhood for the holiday season" and he did this by creating a kinetic sculpture - a rollercoaster of light. The fulcrum of this project was how creativity and communication of ideas was made possible through working in a digital environment. Parametric tools, 3D printing and virtual meeting rooms were all used to enhance the creative design process. It is a novel example of the possibilities that digital design can offer, and how it can enhance collaboration and efficiency at the concept design stage. |
