Abstract: |
Many existing structures that have been designed according to older anti-seismic regulations appear to have insufficient seismic behaviour due to the lack of local ductility. This article investigates the use of composite materials (fibre reinforced polymers) and their influence on the increase in local ductility when strengthened reinforced concrete elements. By using available experimental results and comparing with the analytical results of Eurocode 8, part 3, its 2017 draft revision, the Greek Code of Structural Interventions and its 2017 revision, it is found that the most conservative model is the original Greek Code model, whereas its 2017 revision has the best converge with the experimental results for ductility in terms of chord rotation. However, it is found that values of chord rotation at yield and failure obtained according the draft revision of Eurocode 8-Part 3, are closer to the experimental results, when compared to the other models. |
