Abstract: |
Steel plate reinforced concrete shear wall (SPRCW) is a recently developed composite member. It consists of traditional RC wall, profiled steels inserted at both ends and steel plate inserted middle. With respect to the features of high rise and super high rise building, this article presents an experimental study on the seismic behaviours of SPRCW and RC shear wall under high axial compressive ratio via cyclic loading test on multi-group specimens. The loading capacity, ductile ratio, hysteretic characteristics and damage pattern of SPRCW and traditional RC shear wall are investigated and compared. The test results reveal: 1) The steel plate and the profiled steels can increase the loading and deforming capacity of shear wall. The SPRCW can be thinner 20% than traditional RC wall in thickness with same loading capacity requirement. 2) The SPRCW can provide slower stiffness degradation than traditional RC wall under same axial compressive ratio. 3) The damage procedure and failure pattern of SPRCW and tradition RC wall are similar, the differences in equivalent viscous damping factors at maximum loading capacity and 15% loading capacity degradation are not significant. Based on test results and numerical analysis, SPRCW design formulas were proposed and adopted by the structure design of Beijing Fortune Plaza 2 office tower and the Mega Tower of China World Trade Centre to reduce wall thickness for improving building economy. |
