Abstract:

The high-strength bolted frictional girder connections resists bending moment by cooperation of flange and web resistance, but the cooperation resistance mechanism isn’t clear. To improve bending plastic capacity in ultimate limit state, the bearing moment of the connection should be enhanced by utilizing the mechanism and allowing a certain bolt hole deformation. In this study, the pure bending experiment of the I-section girder connection was conducted to investigate the mechanism and evaluate its effect on performance of the connection. From obtained results, the mechanism was interpreted that the flange and web joint resist bending moment integrally. Its effect could be enhanced by enlargement of the slip moment ratio of the flange to the web. In the case that the ratio is 3.36, the bearing resisting moment when the flange bolt hole deformation reached the bolt diameter of 5% was 1.1 times full plastic moment of the girder.
