Abstract:

Normally, structural analysis of a bridge or civil structure is done with a different software than that used for geotechnical analysis of its foundation. This yields to the need of numerous cycles of approximation, repetition and conservative assumptions. In order to optimize the process of exchanging information between designers, an automation tool has been developed within Sofistik Talpa environment. It has been applied on a number of projects for efficient information exchange between involved disciplines, shortening the time spent on design and in the end increasing quality significantly. The tool has been tested and benchmarked against commonly used solutions like Excel Calculation Sheets or Plaxis 2D. This paper presents the functionality of the tool, discusses the parameters compared by benchmarking and shows the examples where it has been successfully applied.
