Abstract:

In this paper, the nonlinear dynamic progressive collapse analysis of bi-directional beam string structure is conducted using the commercial software LS-DYNA. The progressive collapse behaviour based on the alternate path approach is studied, considering the different member removal at different locations. The simulation results have shown that the number and the stability of struts have greater influence on the progressive collapse resistance, and the failure of the outer cable and corner column could cause progressive collapse more easily than those inner members. Based on the finds, the design suggestions for improving the progressive collapse resistant capacity of bi-directional beam string structures are made.
