Abstract: |
Newport City Footbridge was completed in 2006. This paper describes how the design brief led to the concept design for the 145m span pedestrian bridge, which resembles cranes that occupied the former wharf site. The paper also explores the key engineering aspects of the design, including the static and dynamic analysis and later describes the fabrication and construction of the bridge, and its on-site dynamic testing. Finally, after 7 years service, the paper considers how well the bridge has succeeded in meeting its original design objectives in spearheading the regeneration of the east and west banks of the river Usk. |
