Abstract:

In this article some particular case studies of using innovative solutions regarding structures and joints are presented with the purpose of pointing out those solutions which are used in construction, but which have lead to sad consequences due to their failure or being prone to failure due to their high sensitivity to overloading or to changes in loading arrangements between the connected members. The subject under revision is hard loaded Warren trusses made of I- profiles including end-plate joints with bolts in tensioned chords. The solution when using Warren trusses with support diagonals loaded in tension and made of glue laminated timber comes under criticism regarding the specifics of anisotropic wood material. The design models examined are presented in order to disclose the redistribution of internal forces after the detailing of joints.

This study is aimed at avoiding the risks in structural design and failures of structures.
