Abstract:

This paper presents the design concept and analysis of the hyperbolic tower of Chishi Bridge, a multi-span cable stayed bridge with high piers and long spans. The design concerns general information about the foundations and towers (including piers below the deck and pylons up the deck). The towers adopt an innovative hyperbolic type, which integrates the characteristics of both the A-type pylon and the twin-legged thin wall pier. This innovative type of tower is artistic but complicated. The theoretical calculation and analysis is presented in the paper.
