Abstract: | This paper describes the design and the development of a knowledge-based expert system for the maintenance of timber Warren trusses. These trusses, constructed during World War II, have deteriorated over the years and require repair. In order to properly maintain these buildings, regular inspection by engineers to assess their structural and service conditions is required. A knowledge-based expert system is being developed to aid the engineers, experienced or novice, in conducting an inspection of the trusses. The system integrates the concepts of expert systems, object-oriented programming, relational database and graphics. |
