Abstract: |
The combination of high strength and durability offered by the duplex stainless steels offer the bridge designer the possibility to design lightweight, durable, sustainable and low maintenance bridges for service under various conditions. At the same time the stainless surface offers modern and attractive possibilities in visual appeal and identity. The properties offered by the duplex stainless grades have been utilised in footbridges in different parts of Europe, such as in the Pasarale Padre Arupe in Bilbao, Spain; the Apaté Bridge in Stockholm, Sweden and the Likholefossen Bridge in western Norway. In each of these cases the property profile of different duplex grades were utilised in order to obtain a striking visual identity and a durable and cost-effective bridge design. |
