Abstract:

Studying the behaviour of earthquake resistant spatial structures has been an important subject for research. In this paper using a numerical approach, the effect of earthquake loads on single-layer lattice domes and their supporting frames is investigated. In this numerical analysis, the main dome and corresponding supporting frame are analysed as an integral whole. A factor expressing the degree of stiffness for the supporting frame (substructure) is defined and used in the analysis, Frequent and strong seismic peak accelerations are used to examine the effects of the earthquake on these structures. Various rise to span ratio, together with different stiffness factors for the supporting frame are considered. Conclusions on the behaviour of the single-layer domes are made, after comparing the seismic nodal displacements and the members’ internal forces.
