Abstract: |
An international design competition for a new draw footbridge over Motława River, connecting the old city centre with Ołowianka Island, was carried out in the second half of year 2012 in Gdansk (Poland). Out of 68 submitted projects, in early November, the jury decided a winner and awarded the first prize to consulting engineering company Ponting from Maribor (Slovenia). This article presents the course of the design competition, winning design of the new draw footbridge to be built in centre of Gdansk, designer’s experience on working with foreign polish Authorities and local Partners, and current project state. Winning a well participated international bridge design competition was a great success, but nothing new for Ponting’s engineers. As we have proved our knowhow and experience in bridge design several times yet, however, this will be the first draw bridge to be designed by Ponting and therefore a very special one. |
