Abstract: The paper begins by reviewing the historical information about the different studies carried out in past centuries in order to follow the evolution of the dome's state of damage. The diagnostic evaluation advanced in 1695 is confirmed in the light of modern studies. An intervention hypothesis is then illustrated, which could be assumed as the starting point for a consolidation strategy of the monument.
