Abstract: |
Modern design of structure aims to reach a balance between safety and economy. An index, named redundancy quantifies the dynamic balance between these two features. A particular structure with too high redundancy is considered to be diseconomy while the opposite is unsafe; a proper redundancy of structure can save great material costs. As a prerequisite to safety, less redundancy can reduce more structural material wastes, which makes the structure economic and green. Digging deeper, redundancy of structure can be categorized as single constraint redundancy and multi constraint redundancy. The overall redundant state of a structure can be shown reliably by its single constraint redundancy and multiple constraint redundancy. This paper is to analyze and optimize the design redundancy for a one storey steel frame structure. |
