This paper shall report on the design of the main-stand roof steel frame over the Ishin Memorial Park Athletic Stadium. Combination frames of “balance type cantilever structure” consisting of girders, V-shaped columns and backstay rods in the direction of the center of the hall, and “suspension type”, consisting of suspended keel trusses supported by cables from the top of the masts in a circumferential direction were proposed and designed. By arranging tension members such as cables and rods that play various roles such as resisting external loads due to earthquakes, wind and the like at suitable positions in the combination frame according to that simple principle allowed the whole roof frames to be stabilized with reduced strains and stresses. Here, the structural design of the stadium roof is presented and considered as an original new frame system created by using rational combination frames complementing each other a through sophistication application of simpler (exiting) technology. |
