Abstract:

Infrastructure Mega projects have become a norm across the world. With billions of dollars of investment, Owners are always looking for ways to maximize the design lifetime of their structures.

Long-span bridges are often a major component of these Infrastructure Mega projects. This Technical Paper discusses the construction techniques that are envisioned for the construction and erection of the 32- kilometer Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) Project. Given the complexities of the Project, multiple techniques will be employed: steel fabrication, cast-in-place construction, pre-cast construction, deep marine foundations (caissons, cast-in-steel-shell and cast-in-drilled hole piling, battered piling), heavy lifting, among other envisioned techniques.

When built, this mega BCIB Project, regarded as a priority project of the Philippines Government, will put the Philippines in the world’s infrastructure map and will be hailed as one of the biggest structures worldwide.
