Abstract: To solve the traffic problems in the city centre the Rzeszow Municipality has decided to build a new footbridge in order to separate pedestrian and vehicular traffic on one of the most crowded crossroads in the city. The crossroad is located near by the big shopping center on the one street side and the important public offices on the other side. Moreover the pedestrian crossing is located on the way to the main railway and bus stations. The existing traffic lights cause the permanent traffic jam in the location. In order to enable the pedestrians to move in all directions the circular form of the footbridge was proposed by the designers. The outer diameter of the ring superstructure is about 40 m, divided in four equal parts by the pillar supports. The access to the footbridge will be provided by stairs, ramps and two high volume lifts. The function and the architectural form of the new footbridge as well as its structure have been outlined in the paper following the presentation of main assumptions for design. The footbridge is to be built in 2011.
