Abbot Artaud begins with the construction of a new church.

21 April 1104

Dedication of the choir and the transept.

1106

Heavily taxed the inhabitants revolt and kill Abbot Artaud.

25 July 1120

A fire destroys the Carolingian nave. 1200 persons perish.

1165

Fire in one of the crypts under the choir.

1166

Thomas Becket pronounces the excommunication of King Henry II of England in the church.

1537

The abbey becomes secular.

1819

The wooden frames of the Tower Saint-Michel are catch on fire after lightning hits the tower.
Prosper Mérimée demands the restoration of the church that risks to become a ruin.

1979

Listed as a World Heritage Site.
