Abstract:

Bridge WILD Völkermarkt - prestressed arched structure made of precast UHPC-segments. Part 2 - Erection, accompanying research, quality control

The WILD-bridge spans a romantic valley at the periphery of Völkermarkt in Carinthia. The main structure is an arch consisting of thin-walled pre-cast elements made of ultra high performance concrete (UHFB). The arch is pre-stressed by means of bondless tendons which are arranged in the hollow space of the box-shaped pre-cast elements. This paper continuous the first part, which deals with design and detailing of WILD-bridge. The focus here is on various issues of the realisation. These are the production of the pre-cast members, assembling and erection as well as particular approval experiments and the procedure of quality examination. The mounting of the arch took only ten working days, which shows the high potential of UHFB in the building of bridges as far as economic efficiency is concerned. The project WILD-bridge impressively shows that the possibilities for innovation and development in the field of concrete construction are far from being exhausted. Further bridge projects with UHFB might benefit from the manifold experience gained from this successful pilot project.
