Abstract:

The installation of the Puente Continental Suspension Bridge, Peru - Spans 104 m-320 m-104 m.

The suspension bridge crossing the river Madre de Dios in the Peruvian city of Puerto Maldonado was designed and supplied by the company Waagner- Biro. Shipment took place in 1981. The bridge forms a part of the Interoceanic Highway, the road connection between Peru and Brazil. The completion of the project and consequently the installation of the suspension bridge were interrupted for political reasons and re-started only in 2004. The construction of the suspension bridge was realized as a portion of the last road sections in the years 2009 to 2011. This article covers the inventory of the bridge components as well as the bridge installation including the necessary extensive auxiliary equipment.
