Abstract:

Prediction of concrete resistance against corrosive attack

Within a research project on the durability of ultra high performance concrete, a model to predict the corrosion resistance of concrete against chemical attack was derived. The corrosion resistance depends on the structural resistance of the intact concrete against the ingress of liquid or gaseous media. The prediction model is based on physical properties and is characterised by an easy handling and a high suitability for the practical use. It is a helpful tool to find the concrete with the maximum resistance against an aggressive environment. Approximately, a prediction of the corrosion resistance is also possible if there is little information such as the composure or the compressive strength of the concrete and the chemical composure of the binder. In the following, the prediction model is introduced and its application is demonstrated.
