Abstract:

Innovative shear connectors in ultra high performance concrete

The development of ultra high performance concrete offers various fields of applications. Especially in composite structures the materials steel and concrete can be ideally combined corresponding to their specific material properties. Research on UHPC is forwarded by the research programme SPP 1182 initiated by the DFG. In a project of this programme filigree composite girders with thin UHPC-slabs and a novel shear connector are investigated at the University of Kaiserslautern (TU). The following article presents the achieved results. At first the shear connectors "steel shares" are introduced and the experimental and numerical investigations on the strains resulting from the fabrication process are shown. Tests on the longitudinal load bearing capacity gave information about load bearing and deformation capacity and led to a design approach for the criterion of steel failure. Additionally a FE-model was built up in order to get further insights in the load transfer mechanisms.
