Abstract:

The monolith with a volume of 33000 mm³ is one of the largest temporary floating structures ever built. It was built for a six months long exhibition for the Swiss National Expo.02. It consists of a floating platform composed of pontoons linked together, a mooring system with cables and chains connecting the monolith to vertical piles and dead weights, a steel structure with a weathered steel façade, and two Panorama exhibits inside the cube. The paper describes the design of the floating structure as well as the erection and dismantling.
