Abstract:

General differential equations for dynamic analysis of cable-stayed bridges are established through a continuous treatment of stay action. Equations covering both bending and torsional problems can be established for fan patterned stay arrangements. The equations provide a framework suitable for studying the dynamic behavior of the structure. Application examples are given, followed by a comprehensive study of the dynamic behavior of bridges. Important quantities in bridge dynamic design are obtained and a clear understanding of the behavior of such a flexible structure is presented.
