Abstract:

Design of Reinforced Concrete Columns exposed to Fire: Validation of Simplified Method (Zone Method) by Tests

The nonlinear zone method (simplified calculation method) can be used for design of reinforced concrete columns exposed to fire. The decisive action effects of a fire exposure on the structural behaviour are considered by this method and have been proofed by a comparison of ultimate loads and deformation curves computed by using nonlinear zone method as well as using advanced method.
In addition, this article statistically evaluates how safe - according to DIN 4102-2 - published full scale tests can be modelled by using nonlinear zone method.
Information to mentioned tests is shown. Reasonable assumptions are given for not published boundary conditions. The application of nonlinear zone method is explained. The statistical evaluation leads to governing key data, which proof adequate safety according to DIN 4102-2.
