| Abstract: | The paper investigates the formative years of the engineer Heinz Isler. The influence of his time as assistant at Pierre Lardy's chair at ETH Zurich on his later understanding of concrete structures will be examined. Furthermore, it sheds light on his earliest usage of models as tools for measuring and for designing. |
