Abstract:

The paper presents a holistic approach for monitoring and life cycle management of cooling towers, where exposure, material properties and possible degradation processes are monitored with several kinds of instruments: technical monitoring, visual inspection, numerical simulation. The consideration of structural behaviour and the general condition of the structure, together with the scheduled (remaining) service life is the basis for target-oriented and cost-saving maintenance activity.
