The use of advanced materials allows to building light, durable and aesthetics pedestrian bridges. Stainless steel and GFRP (Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymers) are high durable materials that provide outstanding mechanical properties and magnificent aesthetical possibilities. The larger construction cost can be offset during the life of the structure thanks to the minimum maintenance required by these materials. Combination of steel and GFRP to build hybrid structures allows light and durable as well as stiff structures. Four case studies of footbridges with hybrid structure combining steel and GFRP are presented. All of these bridges are located in Spain. |
