The paper describes the design and construction of works for the East London Line railway northern extension. The former route of the North London Railway City Extension through Dalston in London that had been closed to service in the 1980’s has been reconstructed and brought back into use as part of the London Overground network. The works included the replacement of the life expired Victorian cast iron covered way structures above the old track bed with modern reinforced concrete structures. The new structures will support new building development of up to six storeys directly over the tracks and had to be designed so that they could be constructed within the bounds of the old infrastructure, whilst minimising the effects of ground borne noise and vibration from train operation on the development. |
