Central pylons that utilize saddles to support a single plane of stays are presented as a cost-effective solution for the design of concrete cable-stayed bridges. The success of these structures within the two-alternatives design process for cable-stayed bridges in the USA is discussed. The case of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal Bridge is presented as an example of these cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing structures. |
