This new bridge has a total length of 728 m and is the first major suspension bridge to be built in North America in over thirty years. The 216 USD millions project is currently under construction at the east end of the San Francisco Bay Area. Incorporating the latest in seismic analysis, foundation design and a state-of-the-art steel orthotropic box girder superstructure, the New Carquinez Bridge has set new standards for modern suspension bridges in the USA, particularly in the area of bridge safety during seismic events. |
