'Drift' | Volkan Alkanoglu
Operating at the intersection of public art, infrastructure and architecture Drift is a community-driven, site-specific project. 'Drift' is inspired by the natural formations in and along the creek and the mid-century architecture of the neighborhood. The ADA compliant bridge was fabricated using methods similar to ship-building, with a steel skeleton sheathed in Spanish Cedar. The bridge was fabricated by Ignition Arts in Indianapolis, Indiana in collaboration with Lucas Brown of brownsmith studios, Bloomington, Indiana Volkan Alkanoglu is an artist and architect based in Portland, Oregon, where he is the founding principal of the practice Volkan Alkanoglu | Design LLC. Embedded in my work is always the hope that design can enhance how we interact, support and communicate with each other.” Volkan Alkanoglu | 'Drift' | 2021 | Spanish Cedar | Westcreek Drive Images courtesy of Jennifer Boomer, Raymond Cervantes, Peter Molick, and Ignition Arts.
