In this paper two buildings are described; a steel bridge called the Twist in Vlaardingen (NL) and a post-tensioned concrete urban theatre space called the Stadspodium in Rotterdam (NL). Both buildings show a special input from the structural engineering adding to the architectural beauty of the building. In the steel bridge the rotation of a standard bridge shape; a tube is introduced and in the concrete theatre a amazing thin concrete roof with a span of 30 meter is created by post-tensioning the concrete and making it thereby stronger and, especially, stiffer. |
