The paper presents and discusses instances and examples of proposed applications of double layer tensegrity roof structures for public spaces and buildings. The structures presented belong to two general categories: a) tensegrity structures designed to cover large public spaces such as public plazas, streets or urban voids and b) tensegrity structures that become an integral part of a public building’s facade. The tensegrity structures presented in the paper are double layer grids composed of tensegrity units that form configurations of regular or irregular geometry. Each discussed structure is first analyzed according to its intended function and locus. Then the initial geometric conception, morphological and technological features, such as assembly pattern and method of erection, and the final configuration of each presented structure are discussed. |
