The footbridges realized with arches permit to conjugate form ad function, according to a long tradition which made the arch one of the most used structural types in history, showing one of its peaks during the Roman Empire. The utilization of steel arches, through the formal, dimensional and functional investigation permits to well insert the structure in the surrounding environment, both urban or natural. In fact, it is well known that a structure can integrate strongly with the environment, eventually mixing with it, or represent a “detachment”, a sign which marks clearly the territory, such as the accesses to the cities. The following examples show the use of the arch as a strong link between “structural shape” and “architectonical shape”, paying careful attention to the dialogue with the preexistences, and considering “Venustas” one of the primary requisites in the design of a new structure. |
