Abstrait:

This paper provides a review of seismic isolation systems in Latin America. Seismic isolation is essential for preventing structural damage and maintaining functionality during and after earthquakes, especially for critical infrastructure such as hospitals and bridges. Key systems, including lead rubber bearings and friction pendulum bearings, are analyzed for their effectiveness in controlling dynamic responses. The paper also highlights the increasing use of these systems in Latin America. Recent earthquakes in Chile, Mexico, and Peru demonstrate the success of seismic isolation in reducing structural damage. The importance of independent certification and testing is discussed to ensure that these systems meet performance standards and enhance the resilience of infrastructure in seismic regions.
