Stress-ribbon bridges are almost exclusively for pedestrian use. They have the most slender decks of all footbridges as they practically work in tension only. A quite recent example, "slinky springs to fame", a multi-span stress-ribbon bridge which was designed by an artist and a structural engineer, will be presented in this paper together with ten other stressribbon bridges. The paper offers an overview on the wide range of structural solutions and typical properties of these bridges. |
