Remaining fatigue life estimation of corroded members of a railway bridge is presented in this paper. The method used in this study addresses effects of material loss due to general (uniform) corrosion and fatigue strength degradation of material due to corrosive environment. Initially the information of the considered bridge is discussed. The inspection records, corrosion information and loads on the bridge are discussed in detail. Then a model is introduced to describe time-dependent growth of general corrosion wastage. Then finite element method employed time history dynamic analysis is performed to obtain stress histories of corroded members. A full range S-N curve is proposed for corroded structural detail. The sequential law, which takes the loading sequence effect more precisely in to account than Miner’s rule, is used to obtain remaining fatigue lives. Finally significance and validity of the method are confirmed by comparing the predicted fatigue lives with previous estimations. |
