Walter P Moore has completed six large retractable roof stadium projects over the course of the past ten years. The experiences of building these venues have shaped specific philosophies for the design of kinetic structures that address issues such as hazard-configuration probabilities, roof position control, erection tolerance management, sequential construction simulation, and post- occupancy adaptability. This paper will present an analysis of the developments over the course of these six projects in the areas of wind design, structure-mechanization interaction, roof erection methods, and rigging accommodation. Best practice approaches will be illustrated with examples from each project. |
