The present contribution presents the results of flutter analyses conducted on a finite element model of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge according to the following descriptions of wind action: unsteady lift and moment plus (a) unsteady drag, (b) steady drag, (c) no drag. The finite element results are compared with those obtained by an in-house MATLAB code based on a semi-analytic continuum model as well as with others of literature. The said continuum model includes flexural-torsional second-order effects induced by steady drag force in the bridge’s equations of motion, in addition to unsteady lift and moment actions. |
