It is awkward to implement non-uniform surrounding conditions like irregular openings in a regular structure. These anomalies enforce workarounds like replacements and bracings that query the initial system. Modern Hard- and Software allow calculation of different solutions in short time and probabilistic optimization methods allow effective search in solution space that accrued. By this structures can be generated, that are not predetermined and are able to react in principle to anomalies. It is shown, that these have the ability to outperform regular ones in terms of weight, load bearing capacity and efficiency. Performance of such adaptive structures achieves a level at which these are in terms of the expense for materialization on a competitive base with regular ones. To do so, a powerful tool for the design of adaptive spatial framework structures is introduced. Due to modular software architecture it is able to cover a broad variance of structural questions of any scale and interfaces to standard software allows the usability for engineers and architects with little special knowledge. Different types and the adjustment of parameterization as well as incorporation of boundary conditions allow a high degree of freedom in the structural design process. The introduced tool is not only aimed at technically efficient solutions, but for an optimized design that relates to architectural and other topics. |
