Abstrait: | Within the scope of design as well as during the subsequent required maintenance of bridge structures engineers are frequently confronted with stay cables. On the one hand because cable-stayed bridges are increasingly designed and built due to their aesthetic appearance and on the other hand because the most-sensitive load carrying elements of such structures - the ropes and cables - are very difficult to check on their condition and on the current cable force. Moreover undesirable vibration excitation by aerodynamic and resonance effects is a decisive criterion to maintain serviceability and ultimate limit state of the structure. For this reason efficient, non-destructive testing and assessment technologies are required without using complicated lift-off tests. The main subject of this paper is to present recent technologies which determine the cable force and the current condition of stay cables, accurately. |
