Static and dynamic load tests were implemented at Nakornchaisri Bridge, a 10-year-in-service bridge, to study the bridge behaviour under a change of load conditions by the Department of Rural Roads (DRR), Thailand. The superstructure of the bridge was modelled by a finite element model, which considers the effects of the applied load and material properties. For the conditions in this study, the calibrated model was able to predict the load induced deflections, strains and natural frequency of the bridge superstructure, and can be used to analyze the behaviour of the bridge by means of the Rating Factors (RF), which were used as an indicator of the behaviour of each bridge member in this study. After the bridge conditions were evaluated, strengthening methods were recommended to improve the capacity of load carrying of the bridge. |
