In the last several decades, cable-stayed bridges have become popular due to their aesthetic appeal and efficiency of construction. This type of bridge, however, is light and flexible and has a low level of inherent damping. As a result, they are susceptible to ambient excitations, which include those from wind, seismic and traffic loadings. In designing a long-span cable-stayed bridge, the characteristic of cable vibration should be considered. In case of cable-stayed bridge, many cable vibration modes appear and it will take long calculation time and large calculation. Therefore, efficient calculation technique is necessary. This paper addresses the vibration modes of structure and the influence of elemental damping upon response of cable-stayed bridge with this new analytical Galerkin method.
