This report covers the cooperation between architects and structural engineers in the context of architectural competitions. It identifies the role that can be assumed by the structural engineer, and the influence this can have on the quality of the project. Five case studies will be used to demonstrate why a given competition entry was successful, and the contribution made by the engineer on the outcome of the evaluation. It can be seen that a successful project is often the result of intensive interdisciplinary cooperation. The structural engineer can make a substantial contribution to this, provided he grasps the contexts and interdependencies and can translate them into convincing concepts. |
