The environmentally friendly combination of new materials and the demonstration of new engineering and architectural possibilities is the goal of a project at the “Department of Conceptual and Structural Design-Composite Structures”. An experimental pavilion with a novel composite façade is designed, aiming to improve the durability of timber structures by employing technical and environmental innovations. Therefore a timber frame is combined with up-cycled compressed polyurethane (PUR) panels which again are protected by a 3 mm thick sprayed polyurethane coating. The small experimental building fits in the environment of a listed campus compound and is designed and build by students. The pavilion is used for lectures during summertime and at the same time allows researchers to evaluate its innovative façade structure during the coming years. |
