Abstrait:

Building Information Modeling (BIM), these words are mostly used to describe a process involving the digital representation of buildings and their associated data in all phases of the building’s life- cycle, from preliminary design to demolition [1]. Focusing on the field of structural engineering, this paper shall present several issues which arise especially when dealing with software during modelling, design and detailing of buildings. The paper shall outline key usability factors for structural software in building design based on one BIM model. Further aspects like specialities in the field of bridge engineering, the increased importance of interfaces for the exchange of structural data and an outlook shall conclude this work.
