Wind turbine generators can be run most effectively in windy areas. On the coast, they can be economically viable at heights of 40 m to 70 m. In inland areas, however, wind speeds at such low levels are not usually sufficient for cost-effective operations. A key problem when erecting a wind turbine generation plant is the installation of the generator unit. The article presents the installation procedure which shows how it is possible to draw on many years of experience to meet the challenge installing a very heavy load on a very high tower on a site with poor accessibility where using a crane is not a feasible option. |
