The Swiss A1 highway crosses the river Aare and the adjoining Aare canal near Ruppoldingen. Between 1965 and 1967, two pairs of three-span bridges were built over the canal (Z66) and the river (Z67). Z66 consisted of two post-tensioned single-cell box-girder concrete bridges, with a span arrangement of 27 + 40 + 27 m. Z67 comprised two slab-on-thin-beam composite bridges, with a span arrangement of 35 + 62 +35 m. All four bridges lacked a hard shoulder, and were skew to their abutments. |
